the Time to act is now!

Rebel for life
Extinction Rebellion is a non violent civil disobediance movement formed in May 2018 by a group of academics and launched by Roger Hallam, Gail Bradbrook and others in October 2018. XR wants to rally support worldwide around a common sense of urgency to tackle climate breakdown.

XR Chesham

We are a local group of rebels wanting a future for our children and our planet!  We'll be getting involved in local actions and the national protests, generally  making a nuisance of ourselves until the govenment takes the action needed to save our planet, our environment  and all our futures!

Rebel Rising South East 14-15th September in Brighton

Rebel Rising South East 14-15th September in Brighton is gathering steam. This is the Regional Gathering to get us all more ready for the London Rebellion than ever.

We are facing a climate crisis - let’s act like it’s real!
The Rebel Rising is an XR Regional Gathering for all groups to CONNECT - BUILD - PLAN and CELEBRATE!
This major gathering for the South East UK is all about getting us ready for the London October Rebellion 7th  October

Our demands

Extinction Rebellion is an international apolitical network using non-violent direct action to persuade governments to act on the Climate and Ecological Emergency.

We have three demands in the UK:

1: Tell the truth

Government must tell the truth by declaring a climate and ecological emergency, working with other institutions to communicate the urgency for change.

2: Act Now

Government must act now to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025.

3: Beyond Politics

Government must create and be led by the decisions of a Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice.

Chalk Streams in Crisis

CHALK STREAMS IN CRISIS
Chalk Streams are globally scarce habitats, 85% of the 260 chalk streams in the world are in the UK. The Chilterns Chalk Streams are currently in a very poor state, a combination of climate change and a high level of water abstraction has left us with exceptionally low river levels. Within the Chilterns AONB 60% of the chalk stream habitat is currently dry.

We have recently been informed that a House of Commons debate on theChalk Streams in Crisis dossier has been scheduled for next Monday, 22nd July. For this to have an impact we need to ensure that local MP’s are aware of the issues and that they attend and engage with this debate.  We have contacted all the MP’s with Chilterns chalk streams in their constituency.
How can you help?  Contacting your MP about this issue as soon as you’re able as the time scale is very tight
You can find out who your MP is and how to contact them here. There is a standard letter on our website for you to download .
Spread the word – please help to raise the profile of the Chalk Streams in Crisis. Look out for our tweets on this @Chilternstreams. Across the Chilterns we are suffering a drought, yet hardly anyone is talking about it. Please help us to change that.
